The Banana Textile Project from Tama Art University
The Banana Textile Project has been making steady progress since its inception in 2000. We have been paying attention to aspects of processing untapped resources, specifically the use of the banana stalk for making fabric. We hope that there is a possibility of contributing to the independence of developing nations and to protecting the global environment by introducing the system of producing the banana fabric in other countries. We are trying to adapt the concept and process of the project to the course of study and to encourage students to have a global vision and awareness of our complex contemporary society as designer or artists.
