Miniature Makimono (hand scroll), Choju Giga (Ko), size: w.418 cm (13.7') x h. 11 cm (4.3"), National Treasure, Tokyo National Museum.
This has been considered the first Manga (cartoon) in Japanís art history, supposedly painted by Toba Sojo (Priest Kankkuyu, 1053-1140). A handscroll (Makimono) of frolicking animals and other subjects, only the first chapter, Ko, is thought to be Sojoís. This one part is a national treasure. It comprises the most important art in Japanís history, even though it is believed that different artists painted other parts of this handscroll at different times.
