Daigo zakura is a giant sakura tree stands on a hill between Ochiai town and Katsuyama town. The tree is said to be over a thousand years old and the biggest tree in Okayama. About 700 years ago, the Emperor Go-Daigo visited here and praised the beauty of the tree, resulting in the tree gaining its current name.
Daigo zakura is selected as one of the best 100 trees in Japan and also designated as a national monument of Okayama prefecture. The cherry blossom blooms in mid-April every year.
