Hakata Hariko is said to have been created by doll makers from Osaka in the middle of the Edo period. People of Hakata have loved these traditional toys and used them as decoration at such occasions as boy's festival and Hakata Dontaku festival. They are made with high-quality Washi (Japanese paper), waste paper and glue made of seaweed. And dolls are carefully hand-painted. Their rich and homely expressions comfort everyone.
