Hakata-ori textile has marked 760 years of history from its inception. The old tradition and technique of Hakata-ori is flexibly blended with modern styles and the latest technology to keep pace with the 21st century.

Along with Hakata Dolls, Hakata-ori Textile is an artcraft representing Hakata. (Hakata is generally an alternative name for Fukuoka City today although historically it denoted a certain commercial area within the city.) The origin of this weaving art dates back to the medieval age of the 13th century (the Kamakura-era). Over this great span of time Hakata-ori has been an inseparable part of the lives of the people and the town of Hakata. This homepage is designed to introduce this special and unique textile to people around the world.
