On August 6, 1945, a blinding flash lit the sky above a group of 13-year-old girls who had been mobilized to demolish buildings. All 220 girls died instantly.
The only items returned to the parents were the summer uniforms that the girls had been wearing, sewn themselves, but now brutally burned and reduced to tatters.
Based on the diaries left by the students of Dai-ichi Hiroshima Prefectural Girls High School, the program illustrates their fleeting youthful days and how they had felt joy in becoming high school students even in a time of war with animated scenes, while documenting the profound sorrow of the bereaved families.
