Irie Chohachi

Irie Chohachi
Born in Matsuzaki on the west coast of Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, Irie Chohachi (1815-1899, also known as Izu-no Chohachi) studied art at Edo (now Tokyo), and then became a famous decorative plasterer. It is called "Kote-e". His works have both artistical delicacy and daring, and every work is minute and vivid, it almost defies belief that he worked with a trowel. Some 50 of his works are displayed Izu Chohachi Museum and there are many works survived in Shizuoka and Tokyo.
