Left of Matsu-ni Hahadori, Yanagi-ni Shirasagi-zu Byobu (Picture of Pine Tree and Hahadori birds/Willow Tree and Heron) by Kano Eitoku in Momoyama-era (1573-1603), 6 panels, set of 2, size: w. 350 cm (137.7”) X h. 160.5 cm (63.1”) each. Is this a future National Treasure?
These long lost sets of Byobu reappeared in 2007, then, recently, a researcher found that they were painted by Kano Eitoku (1543-90), whose works are only a few that have survived now. Another of his famous works was "Azuchi Momoyamajo Castle-zu Byobu", which was given to the Pope from then samurai hero Oda Nobunaga as a gift. This Byobu was displayed for a while at the gallery at the Vatican, then disappeared. There is no Azuchi Momoyamajo Castle picture except for this work.
