Nami-no Ihachi
Nami-no Ihachi (1751-1824), Ihachi the waves, Takeshi Ihachiro Yoshinobu, carver, people named him "Nami-no Ihachi" because especially his wave carvings were excellent. Nami-no Ihachi's dramatic wood carvings of the waves in Chiba's (near Tokyo) Sotobo coast reportedly influenced Katsushika Hokusai and his Great Wave, one of Japan's most well-known artists and most well-known painting. Hokusai visited Gyoganji Temple and saw this carving before paint Great Wave 20 years later.
