Ojiya Chijimi

Ojiya Chijimi
Ojiya Chijim: This is a type of linen crepe popular for use in summer kimono. It was developed in the beginning of the Edo-era. Its distinctive crimping makes it a highly valued cloth, and it was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property in 1955. The women who do it this way finish by spreading the cloth out on the snow to bleach it, a distinctive sight heralding the arrival of spring in City of Ojiya.
